The principal authorities in Cumbria have been asked to submit proposals for local government reorganisation in Cumbria:- Cumbria County Council has proposed one unitary authority covering the whole of Cumbria, replacing the current district and county councils. One Cumbria proposal. South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) has submitted a proposal for a new Morecambe Bay Unitary Authority, comprising South Lakes, Barrow and Lancaster City. The Bay proposal. Proposals submitted by other local councils split Cumbria into two unitary authorities along either east/west or north/south lines. The government is consulting on these proposals to help the Secretary of State form a judgement on which, if any, proposal best meets the criteria for implementing these reforms. Read more about the consultation and respond here.
